With extreme loss of weight, the excess skin in the upper arm will hang down from side like wings. It is very evident on elevation and normal daily function. No amount of exercise will help decrease that skin excess. 

Brachioplasty(arm lift) is removal of excess skin and re draping it around the upper arm.

A scar is done along the medial inner invisible part of the upper arm extending from axilla to above elbow.

  • Length of procedure: 2-3 hour.

  • Drains are usually inserted to remove excess fluids and blood. They are removed in 2-3 days  in the clinic.
  • Full regain of function of the arms can be achieved in 5-7 days with normal return of function within 2 weeks. Pressure garment needed for around 6 weeks.
  • Scarring is usually evident but minimal, widening of the scar is noted in almost all cases.
